We've all been there when we have a sore throat and have a big performance sometime in the near future. Now admit it, we all freak out internally (maybe even externally sometimes), and hit the web immediately to find a way to cure our sore throats in just one day. Don't fret (of course I had to add a music joke)- I've found the eight best home remedies for a sore throat to make sure your voice is at it's top capability for your performance!

1. Liquids

Drink lots and lots of liquids! By drinking fluids, you will keep the throat soothed and it will start to heal your throat with a lot of coating. It doesn't matter if you drink hot or cold liquids either! One of the best things to drink is definitely water though. It will keep your throat soothed as well as keep your mucus membranes soothed, so they will be able to fight off bacteria better.

2. Tea

Drink herbal tea in order to soothe your sore throat. Teas contain antioxidants, no matter what kind, that will fight off bacteria and sickness, as well as strengthen your immunity. You can also add honey to it to make it taste a little better and to help with the soothing.

3. Salt Water

If you gargle salt water, it's said to have tremendous effects on your sore throat. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt into a warm glass of water and gargle it. If you do this multiple times a day, it will reduce the swelling and irritation in your throat and loosen up the mucus. Do not swallow the water, though- spit it out!

(Tip: If the salt water is an awful taste for you, don't be afraid to add some honey into your salt water to make the taste a little less revolting).

The typical chicken noodle soup will always help with your sore throat! Not only does it ensure that you're getting the nutrients that you need, but the salt in the broth has anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce swelling and irritation.

5. Honey

Honey has always been a good healer for sore throats. You can mix it in with your tea or you can just eat a spoonful of it. Either way, honey has always been able to decrease coughing and soothe throats, in order to get rid of your sore throat faster.

6. Marshmallow

Now, this article is not your free excuse to just go eat an entire bag of a marshmallows. Marshmallow, or Marshmallow Root, is an herb that contains mucilage, which helps soothe and coat throats. All you need is 1 tablespoon of the root, and a cup of boiling water. Pour the boiling water over the root and let it drain for at least 30 minutes.

7. Garlic

Garlic has a bad rep for being gross, stinky, and it's so repulsive that it supposedly wards off vampires. However, a recommended way to get rid of a sore throat is to suck on a clove of garlic. Just suck on half of a clove of garlic and it will begin to kick the sore throat right out of there and help you right back on your way to healing.

Rest and relaxation is always the best medicine. If you just get lots of sleep and don't work your throat/vocal cords more than needed, it will also help your road to recovery speed right along.
